Finale di stagione da protagonista per Giacomo Ghermandi, impegnato sul circuito di Brno nell’ultima tappa stagionale del TCR Eastern Europe. Il pilota bolognese, reduce dal primo podio conquistato nel precedente appuntamento di Most, è infatti riuscito a centrare l’obiettivo del sesto posto finale nella graduatoria assoluta, grazie ai due ottimi piazzamenti conquistati sul tracciato ceco che gli hanno permesso di salire a quota 75 punti in classifica.
Un risultato eccellente, se si considera che l’unico portacolori italiano nella serie est europea si è piazzato immediatamente alle spalle di piloti e team ufficiali, chiudendo dunque al primo posto tra le realtà indipendenti. Si tratta di un traguardo frutto da un lato della grande crescita del grintoso ‘Jack’ nel corso della stagione, supportato sapientemente da Andrea Belicchi e Pepe Oriola nel ruolo di coach driver, ma anche dello straordinario lavoro portato avanti dalla Scuderia Ghermandi by Lema Racing, il cui staff ha ottimizzato le potenzialità dell’Audi RS3 LMS nel corso dell’anno.
Nonostante le caratteristiche del circuito di Brno fossero decisamente ostili alla vettura della Casa bavarese, Ghermandi ha messo a segno un’altra prestazione maiuscola nel corso del week-end, riuscendo nel corso di gara-2 a tenersi alle spalle sia il vincitore dell’edizione 2022 Bartosz Groszek che il neo-campione Mat’o Homola. Questo gli ha consentito, dopo la sesta piazza ottenuta al termine della prima manche, di chiudere il campionato con un ottimo quinto posto sotto la bandiera a scacchi, conquistando un bottino di 18 punti che gli ha consentito di scavalcare Vukovic e Fulin in classifica.
La sfida finale della stagione, svoltasi sul tracciato che fino al 2020 ha ospitato la MotoGP, ha visto Ghermandi conquistare il settimo posto assoluto in qualifica grazie al tempo di 2:14.536, in un confronto che oltre alla novità legata alla presenza del campione uscente ha visto anche il sorprendente giovane ungherese Attila Bucsi conquistare una perentoria pole position. In gara-1 il driver emiliano si è reso autore di un’ottima prestazione che lo ha visto concludere al sesto posto, aggiudicandosi il diritto di scattare dalla seconda fila nella gara dell’indomani.
Dopo una partenza non perfetta, Ghermandi ha messo in mostra un eccellente passo gara anche nel corso di gara-2, grazie al quale si è difeso senza troppi affanni da un terzetto alle sue spalle composto da Bucsi, Groszek e Homola. Il quinto posto finale gli ha quindi consentito di concludere in maniera ottimale la stagione, regalando agli uomini del proprio team l’ennesima soddisfazione di una stagione in continua escalation.
“Il bilancio di quest’ultimo round della stagione è assolutamente positivo – evidenzia Giacomo Ghermandi – visto che abbiamo raggiunto il nostro obiettivo di conquistare il sesto posto finale nella classifica assoluta. Crediamo fosse il miglior risultato possibile in questa stagione, e dunque il fatto di esserci piazzati primi alle spalle degli ufficiali denota la nostra grande crescita e lo straordinario lavoro portato avanti dal team. Siamo tutti molto contenti, anche perché nonostante la pista fosse poco adatta alle caratteristiche della nostra Audi, siamo riusciti a limitare i danni riuscendo anzi in gara-2 a concludere davanti sia al campione uscente che a quello 2023. Si tratta di una bella soddisfazione che ci spinge a guardare al futuro con ancora maggiore entusiasmo ed ottimismo: vorrei ringraziare tutto lo staff della squadra ed in particolar modo Andrea Belicchi e Pepe Oriola che si sono alternati nel ruolo di coach driver, così come tutti gli sponsor che stanno credendo nel nostro progetto e naturalmente tutti coloro che hanno fatto il tifo per noi dall’Italia seguendo le gare in diretta streaming. Questo risultato mi permette inoltre di entrare nella Top-100 del ranking internazionale riservato ai piloti TCR, dunque ci consente di avere anche delle ottime prospettive per il futuro. La nostra stagione in ogni caso non si ferma qui, visto che a breve annunceremo i nostri prossimi impegni in pista: vogliamo continuare a divertirci e a migliorare!”
A GRAND FINALE AND SIXTH PLACE FINISH FOR GIACOMO GHERMANDI IN TCR EASTERN EUROPE
In the last round of the season, staged at the Czech circuit of Brno, the driver from Bologna achieved a fifth and a sixth place, confirming his place among the fastest drivers in the Eastern European category
End of season as a protagonist for Giacomo Ghermandi, engaged on the circuit of Brno in the last round of the TCR Eastern Europe season. The driver from Bologna, just back from his first podium in the previous round in Most, managed to reach the objective of the sixth place in the overall standings, thanks to two excellent placings on the Czech track that allowed him to climb to 75 points in the standings.
This is an excellent result, if one considers that the only Italian driver in the Eastern European series placed immediately behind official drivers and teams, thus finishing first among the independents. It is an achievement that is the result, on the one hand, of the great growth of the gritty ‘Jack’ over the course of the season, skilfully supported by Andrea Belicchi and Pepe Oriola in the role of coach driver, but also of the extraordinary work carried out by Scuderia Ghermandi by Lema Racing, whose staff has optimised the potential of the Audi RS3 LMS over the course of the year.
Despite the characteristics of the Brno circuit being decidedly hostile to the car of the Bavarian manufacturer, Ghermandi put in another outstanding performance over the weekend, managing in race 2 to keep behind both the winner of the 2022 edition Bartosz Groszek and the new champion Mat’o Homola. This allowed him, after his sixth place at the end of the first heat, to close out the championship with an excellent fifth place under the chequered flag, earning a haul of 18 points that allowed him to overtake Vukovic and Fulin in the standings.
The final challenge of the season, which took place on the track that will host the MotoGP until 2020, saw Ghermandi take seventh place overall in qualifying thanks to a time of 2:14.536, in a confrontation that in addition to the novelty linked to the presence of the defending champion also saw the surprising young Hungarian Attila Bucsi take a peremptory pole position. In race 1, the Emilian driver was the author of an excellent performance that saw him finish in sixth place, earning the right to start from the second row in the following day’s race. After a less-than-perfect start, Ghermandi also showed excellent race pace in race 2, thanks to which he defended himself without too much trouble from a trio behind him made up of Bucsi, Groszek and Homola. Fifth place in the final round thus enabled him to bring the season to a fitting end, giving his team the umpteenth satisfaction of an escalating season.
“The balance of this last round of the season is absolutely positive,” points out Giacomo Ghermandi, “as we achieved our goal of finishing sixth overall. We believe it was the best possible result this season, so the fact that we placed first behind the officials denotes our great growth and the extraordinary work carried out by the team. We are all very happy, also because although the track was not very suited to the characteristics of our Audi, we managed to limit the damage and even managed to finish ahead of both the defending champion and the 2023 champion in race 2. This is a great satisfaction that encourages us to look to the future with even greater enthusiasm and optimism. I would like to thank all the team staff and especially Andrea Belicchi and Pepe Oriola, who alternated in the role of coach driver, as well as all the sponsors who are believing in our project and of course all those who cheered for us from Italy by following the races live via streaming. This result also allows me to enter the Top-100 of the international ranking reserved for TCR drivers, so we also have very good prospects for the future. Our season in any case does not stop here, as we will soon announce our next track commitments: we want to continue to have fun and improve!”
