Sul tracciato di Most arriva il miglior risultato stagionale per il pilota bolognese, che in gara-2 sotto la pioggia artiglia la terza posizione dopo essere scattato dalla pole position
Week-end di grandi soddisfazioni per Giacomo Ghermandi, impegnato nel quinto appuntamento stagionale del TCR Eastern Europe sul circuito di Most (Repubblica Ceca). Il grintoso pilota emiliano, unico rappresentante tricolore nella serie est-europea, è infatti riuscito a conquistare uno splendido terzo posto sotto la bandiera a scacchi di gara-2, dopo essere scattato dalla pole position ed aver condotto la gara nel corso delle battute iniziali sotto la pioggia. Per il portacolori della Scuderia Ghermandi by Lema Racing si tratta del miglior risultato stagionale, che conferma la dirompente crescita messa in mostra nel corso del campionato e lo avvicina in maniera decisiva alla Top-6 della classifica assoluta, prossimo obiettivo in vista del gran finale di Brno tra poco più di un mese.
Il definitivo inserimento di Ghermandi tra i big del TCR Eastern Europe è stato sottolineato da un fine settimana disputato costantemente ad alti livelli e privo di sbavature, nonostante quella ceca non fosse la pista più adatta per le caratteristiche della sua Audi RS3 LMS, la quale ha dovuto fare i conti con 30 kg di zavorra ed allo stesso tempo con le performance delle competitive Hyundai Elantra dei diretti competitor. Ciò nonostante, il bolognese non si è lasciato di certo intimorire, dimostrando una notevole capacità di gestione della gara anche nelle fasi più delicate, mettendo in mostra una maturità agonistica che gli sta consentendo di misurarsi su livelli molto vicini a quelli dei principali piloti professionisti presenti nel campionato.
Affiancato in questa occasione dall’esperto driver coach Pepe Oriola, sin dalle prove libere Ghermandi si è messo all’opera con i tecnici del team per ottimizzare il set-up della vettura sui 4222 metri del circuito ceco. Un lavoro che ha dato i propri frutti in qualifica, visto che “Jack” è riuscito ad ottenere un ottimo sesto tempo assoluto a soli 0”699 dalla pole conquistata dall’idolo locale Petr Fulin. Il via di gara-1 ha visto il bolognese autore di un’ottima partenza, in seguito alla quale è riuscito ad inserirsi in quinta posizione tenendo il passo dei migliori. Un contatto con la Hyundai di Adam Kout ha però compromesso l’assetto della sua vettura, costringendo Ghermandi a rallentare a causa di un fastidioso sottosterzo. Per lui è arrivato un comunque discreto settimo posto sotto la bandiera a scacchi, che gli ha fornito però l’opportunità di scattare in pole position l’indomani in seguito all’inversione della griglia.
La pioggia ha quindi accolto i protagonisti del TCR Eastern Europe nella giornata di Domenica 6 Agosto, con Ghermandi che ha sfruttato al meglio l’opportunità di scattare davanti a tutti mantenendo il comando della gara nel corso dei primi giri dopo lo start avvenuto alle spalle della Safety Car. Il pilota bolognese nulla però ha potuto fare per arginare la rimonta di Kout, Homola e Fulin, lottando comunque con il coltello tra i denti senza concedere agevolmente il passo agli avversari. Complice la diminuzione della pioggia nella fase successiva, il driver emiliano ha messo a segno il secondo miglior tempo sul giro della gara, approfittando quindi dell’uscita di scena di Fulin per conquistare un meritato terzo posto e salire per la prima volta in stagione sul podio.
“Siamo davvero felici e soddisfatti per l’esito di questo weekend – sottolinea Giacomo Ghermandi – che conferma la grande crescita che stiamo mettendo in mostra nel corso di questa stagione. Salire sul podio rappresenta davvero una sensazione fantastica anche perché non si tratta di un risultato frutto di circostanze casuali, bensì del grande lavoro portato avanti da tutta la squadra. Pur non essendo una pista favorevole alle caratteristiche della nostra vettura ci siamo difesi molto bene sin dalle qualifiche, ottimizzando l’assetto e mettendoci nelle migliori condizioni per poter essere competitivi in gara. Nella prima manche il risultato è stato condizionato da una toccata che ha compromesso l’assetto della vettura, mentre in gara-2 il passo si è rivelato molto competitivo sul bagnato: dopo aver mantenuto la testa nelle fasi iniziali ho cercato di dare il massimo nonostante le condizioni fossero davvero difficili, ed alla fine è arrivato questo fantastico terzo posto che premia gli sforzi e l’impegno di tutti. Vorrei davvero ringraziare ogni singolo membro della squadra per il fantastico lavoro, così come gli sponsor e tutti coloro che credono sin dal principio in questo progetto. Un ringraziamento speciale va anche ad Andrea Belicchi per il percorso che ci ha consentito nell’ultimo anno e mezzo di arrivare a questi risultati, così come a Pepe Oriola che in questo week-end ci ha dato la spinta indispensabile per ottimizzare le nostre potenzialità! Giacomo Ghermandi tornerà in azione nel fine settimana del 9-10 Settembre, quando il TCR Eastern Europe affronterà la tappa finale della stagione 2023 sul circuito di Brno, sempre in Repubblica Ceca.

The best result of the season for the Bolognese driver arrives on the Most track, who in race-2 in the rain claws for third position after starting from pole position
Weekend of great satisfactions for Giacomo Ghermandi, engaged in the fifth round of the TCR Eastern Europe season on the Most circuit (Czech Republic). The fast driver from Bologna, the only Italian representative in the Eastern European series, managed to conquer a splendid third place under the checkered flag of race-2, after starting from pole position and leading the race during the opening stages under the rain. This is the best result of the season for the Scuderia Ghermandi by Lema Racing driver, which confirms the explosive growth shown during the championship and brings him decisively closer to the Top-6 of the overall standings, the next target in view of the grand finale of Brno in just over a month.
Ghermandi’s definitive inclusion among the big names in the TCR Eastern Europe was underlined by a weekend disputed constantly at high levels and flawless, despite the fact that the Czech one was not the most suitable track for the characteristics of his Audi RS3 LMS, which had to deal with 30 kg of ballast and at the same time with the performance of the competitive Hyundai Elantra of its direct competitors. Nonetheless, the Italian certainly didn’t let himself be intimidated, demonstrating a remarkable ability to manage the race even in the most delicate phases, showing off a competitive maturity that is allowing him to measure himself on levels very close to those of the main professional riders present in the championship.
Supported on this occasion by the expert driver coach Pepe Oriola, right from the free practice sessions Ghermandi worked with the team technicians to optimize the set-up of the car on the 4222 meters of the Czech circuit. A work that paid off in qualifying, given that “Jack” managed to get an excellent sixth time overall just 0″699 from the pole position conquered by the local idol Petr Fulin. The start of race-1 saw the Bolognese author of an excellent start, following which he managed to enter fifth position keeping up with the best. However, a contact with Adam Kout’s Hyundai compromised the set-up of his car, forcing Ghermandi to slow down due to annoying understeer. For him, however, a decent seventh place arrived under the checkered flag, which however gave him the opportunity to start in pole position the next day following the inversion of the grid.
The rain then welcomed the protagonists of the TCR Eastern Europe on Sunday 6 August, with Ghermandi making the most of the opportunity to sprint in front of everyone, maintaining the lead of the race during the first laps after the start which took place behind the Safety Car. However, the Bolognese rider was unable to do anything to stem the comeback by Kout, Homola and Fulin, still fighting with a knife between his teeth without easily giving way to his opponents. Thanks to the decrease in rain in the following phase, the Emilian driver set the second best lap time of the race, thus taking advantage of Fulin’s exit to conquer a well-deserved third place and climb the podium for the first time this season .
“We are really happy and satisfied with the outcome of this weekend – underlines Giacomo Ghermandi – which confirms the great growth we are showing during this season. Getting on the podium really represents a fantastic feeling also because it is not a result of random circumstances, but of the great work carried out by the whole team. Even though it wasn’t a favorable track for the characteristics of our car, we defended ourselves very well right from qualifying, optimizing the set-up and putting ourselves in the best conditions to be competitive in the race. In the first heat, the result was conditioned by a touch that compromised the set-up of the car, while in race-2 the pace proved to be very competitive in the wet: after keeping my lead in the initial stages, I tried to give my best despite the conditions were really difficult, and in the end this fantastic third place arrived which rewards everyone’s efforts and commitment. Giacomo Ghermandi will be back in action on the weekend of 9-10 September, when TCR Eastern Europe will face the final round of the 2023 season on the Brno circuit, also in the Czech Republic.
